Darrin Anderson, student of Jeff Barnes Master, underwent his 5th Dan grade and by doing so, he without a doubt proved he was exactly that – a 5thDan. He exhibited – the 5 Pinan
kata, seianchin, tensho, yan tzu, saifa, plus several others I can’t remember the name of. Then, assisted by Steve Erixon, he demonstrated movement for escape (evasion) control and counter attack. He related movement expressed as the 5 elements, e.g. - water – flowing rising and lifting. - Steel (metal) penetrating, - earth – lowering, and grounding. - Fire,-burning – attacking. Then using this approach disturb and break the opponent’s rhythm, then distort
his body to open for attack. I was privileged to participate in Darrin’s Shodan grade in 1993 – and now have the privilege of attending his 5thDan grade.
Congratulations Darrin on a grade well earned.
